Non-Destructive Thickness Measurement of Metal Pipes

Non-Destructive Thickness Measurement of Metal Pipes

Non-Destructive Testing or NDT is a widely used technique which is used nowadays in every production vertical to analyze, check and evaluate the properties of various components, materials, and systems without causing any damage to the objects or item being inspected. The terms non-destructive inspection, examination or evaluation, can also be utilized to explain the non-destructive way of testing. This testing does not leave any effect on the quality of the material. This testing technique is widely used in aeronautical engineering, forensic engineering, electrical engineering, system engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering. There are numerous types of NDT testing techniques that are used nowadays which includes ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle inspection and many more. One such testing instrument we are going to discuss is Magna-Mike 8600.

Common uses of Metal pipes

Steel pipes are extremely versatile. That’s why they’re commonly used in many industries, from gas to sewage. They also come in a variety of types and sizes, and they can easily be customized to fit the needs of a particular project, adding even more to its versatility. Truth be told, it’s near impossible to find an industry that does not use steel pipe in some capacity.

Here are some of the common uses of steel pipes:
• Domestic
• Medical
• Factories
• Construction

Non-Destructive thickness measurement

One of the most popular testing instrument which works on non-destructive means to test the quality of the materials is Magnamike 8600, a premium quality of wall thickness gauge. It is a portable, table top model which works on Hall’s effect principle i.e. magnetic method that helps to perform several tests on a single non-ferrous sample without affecting its quality, shape and size. Olympus is one of the leading manufacturers of non-destructive wall thickness gauge and presto is an authorized supplier of the instrument. The instrument is very easy to operate. Measurements are made when the magnetic probe is scanned on one side of the sample containers and target ball is placed inside the container. The probe of the device works on Hall Effect sensor and measures the actual difference between the magnet and target ball. The result of the test is then displayed on the digital display.
